Application Process

Thank you for your interest in our school. Admission is open to anyone who chooses the educational experience we offer and who is a good fit for our school as determined by the principal.

.1. Visit our School

Please come in to see what Emmanuel is all about. In order to schedule a visit, please contact our Administrative Assistant, Sylvia . She may be contacted at (808) 877-3037or bediamol@els-maui.org. During your visit you will have a chance to tour the school, meet some of the teachers, and find out about our programs. You may also schedule an appointment with our pastor if you have questions about our religious beliefs and teachings.

2. Apply

When you are ready to enroll, please fill out an application and records release form. These forms can be found on our forms page. The above forms, a copy of the student’s most recent test scores and report cards, and for children with special needs, a copy of the student’s Individual Education Plan should be submitted to the school office. Once the principal has determined that Emmanuel can meet the needs of the student, a testing session is set up. All new students entering grades 1 through 8 will be tested by the appropriate grade level teacher. The test is will last between 30 minutes and one hour depending on the grade level. There is a $25 fee for testing.

3. Register

Once we have reviewed all of your child’s information, you may be invited to register at Emmanuel. You will receive notification regarding your acceptance along with the necessary forms for enrollment. The final decision regarding enrollment is at the discretion of the principal.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact Principal Ann Bergman at (808) 877-3037 or emmanuelmaui@yahoo.com .

Admissions

As an expression of our Christian philosophy, Emmanuel Lutheran School admits students of any sex, race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. Emmanuel does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship programs, and other school administered programs. Emmanuel Lutheran School is operated for the children of Emmanuel Lutheran Church as well as the community

Kindergarten Enrollment

The staff at Emmanuel recognizes that most children are more successful if they are five years old when entering kindergarten. Children who are 5 years of age on or before August 1 will be eligible for our kindergarten. Children who turn 5 years of age between August 2 and December 31 will be eligible for our kindergarten on a space available basis.

Incoming kindergartners are required to participate in an Observation Day scheduled in March. Children interact with peers and teachers through stories, outside play, art and free choice activities. They will also participate in a developmental screening test to determine readiness for the kindergarten year.

Application Procedures

Submit an application for each student, accompanied by a registration and test fee. Other fees and their due dates are on the tuition schedule given to prospective parents.

Provide verification of child’s age, an Evaluation Form completed by child’s current or previous teacher, and a copy of the child’s most recent report card.

After submitting these forms, you will be asked to schedule a time for your child to come to school to interact with one of our teachers and also to complete a brief placement test.

Acceptance letters will be sent out by April 15 or within two weeks of completing the above steps.

Upon acceptance to Emmanuel, request transfer of school records from former school and provide health records. (The State of Hawaii requires that we have possession of the necessary health records before a child attends class.)

Final registration is completed on registration week in July.

All new students admitted to Emmanuel are accepted on probationary status pending first quarter review.
