I have been the Principal at ELS since July 2016.  I am delighted  to have completed my 40th year in Lutheran education here in Maui  at ELS!

I've been blessed to serve in Lutheran Christian schools in Port Huron, Michigan; Lincoln, Nebraska; Arlington, Nebraska; Kalispell, Montana; Cornelius, Oregon; North Platte, Nebraska; & Cloverdale, British Columbia, Canada!

You know you are in the right profession when you wake up in the morning with a smile knowing you get to do the work you love with a happy heart for the challenges that every day brings! I'm thankful to have the privilege to work with children, parents and staff. Yes, the Lord is good to me!

Barbara, my wife of 40+ years & I have 4 sons(their wives), and 4 grandchildren. I'm the second of four sons of an LCMS pastor.  An especially fond memory for me is of a visit with my High School Principal while visiting Friendswood, Texas.  When I told him I was an elementary school principal he grinned from ear to ear and said, "You have no idea how it pleases me to think of YOU sitting on the other side of the desk!" --- I used to see him-- lots!!

In my spare time I enjoy hunting & fishing. I'm learning to share my favorite swimming beach with others (the cove area at Kam III), as well as learning new activities like ukulele lessons with Mr. Winkler & his 3rd Graders!

Carrie Davenport - E-Plus & Intersession Director/Teacher Assistant

Mrs. Davenport began working for the YMCA’s After School Program at Emmanuel in 1994.   A couple of years later she approached the Principal with a proposal that ELS run the program -  it’s been part of ELS ever since!  As the director of the program, Mrs. Davenport works closely with the Dept. of Health to ensure that we meet all standards to maintain our license.

Mrs. Davenport, originally from Long Beach, California, moved to Maui in 1991.  In 1992, she met and married her husband, Jesse, here on Maui. In 1998, they had their first and only child, a daughter. She stepped away for a few years when Anna was young, to be a mom, but always kept in touch with ELS.  God blessed her by bringing them back to Emmanuel in 2007. Anna attended ELS from the 4th through 8th grade.

“I continue to feel blessed to be an ELS staff member.  Emmanuel is my family away from my family!  I believe there is so much more to give a child beyond the classroom environment.  I’m so very thankful God has chosen me to share this special time of day as a gift to our ELS children through the E-Plus After School Program! “

In her spare time Mrs. Davenport enjoys getting out and exploring the island with her adventurous husband, swimming and living in Kula.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.  Proverbs 22:6.
